The Early Sessions, Vol. 3

Session 106

Writing Sales and Submissions (Continued)

November 11, 1964

SESSION 106 NOVEMBER 11, 1964 9 PM WEDNESDAY AS SCHEDULED em>(Today marks a week since Seth’s statements concerning a writing sale on Jane’s part. See the 104th session, pages 125-6. Jane has yet to receive word of a sale of any kind.

(She does continue to receive encouraging letters from publishers. The latest arrived yesterday from Playboy Magazine. It was a long letter, and the editor asked to see more of Jane’s work. She met this editor some years ago. She has not met two other executives there who have taken some cognizance of her work, and we now speculate that the situation described by Seth on page 126 might apply to Playboy. It will be interesting to check future events.

(It is also interesting to note that the nodule or ganglion on Jane’s left wrist is almost gone. Seth dealt with this in the 98th session. See page 77. Seth stated that the nodule would disappear. Jane had in fact forgotten about it. She was reminded of it because of a slight ache, incurred when she held her arm over her head for an extended period of time.

(Jane had no idea of the material for the session. She was not nervous. She appeared to have fully recovered from the impact of Monday’s session. Her manner was normal in all respects.

(Again, she began dictation with her glasses off. Her eyes were dark as usual, her voice normal, her pacing rather slow although it speeded up a bit later. Her delivery was not fast, and also broken by pauses.)

Good evening.

(“Good evening, Seth.”)

I have been promising you a short session so long that tonight I may finally give you one. Unless of course I get carried away.

I am most pleased with the chapter that Ruburt has written to open our book, [How To Develop Your ESP Power ], and as you shall soon discover, events will work out as I predicted they would in the late summer.

Of course we have more material yet to cover on the nature of matter as it appears to you. Much of this material will be discussed along with data concerning the construction of the dream dimension. There will be completely new subjects also to concern us.

I am holding a rather brief and quiet session this evening because of the effort involved for Ruburt in our last session. It quite made up for two regular sessions, and I will not go into that subject matter at all this evening.

Nor will we discuss clairvoyance, except to mention that such incidences may appear frequently within the sessions as Ruburt gains confidence. Indeed, that details have appeared is evidence of increased confidence on his part.

I do not consider these small helpful hints of future events to be the sort of demonstration which in certain circumstances could annoy me. And any annoyance that I do feel is merely with the impatience that requests for demonstrations may hide.

You are both moving into a most profitable season, and a most fulfilling one in many respects, and this is the result of discipline and focused energies on both of your parts.

One small note here that I meant to mention earlier. It is true in one respect, in a very large respect, that your physical universe as such does not exist, in the manner in which you suppose that it does. In another sense it does legitimately exist, but in a way in which your ordinary senses would never perceive it.

(Note that this relates to the ideas Jane had during her trance experiment of November 4. See page 116.)

As you know, it is the focus of your perception upon certain reference points, to the exclusion of others, that helps to tie your universe together. If you distinguished other quite legitimate reference points also, then your physical universe would be indistinguishable to your perceptions; that is, physical perceptions, lost in a maze of seemingly chaotic data. Such data, such other reference points, come into your perceptions however as you are ready for them, and they change the horizons and whole conception of your universe as they do so.

As for example Freud added a dimension to your world with his discovery of the true subconscious, as far as he was able to perceive it.

Before this your psychological world was a flat one, and discoveries can now be made, and new reference points be recognized, that would have been impossible before.

These points are highly significant, and the world of the inner man will be found to gain depth, shape, motion, in and through space and time. Discoveries in this realm will be fully as magnificent as those like discoveries in the world of physical matter; and again, because ideas and psychic energy form the basis of the physical universe, an expansion and thrust in the realm of idea will serve to actually expand and change the nature, scope and dimension of your physical universe, and in a way that could be achieved in no other manner.

I suggest your break.

(Break at 9:27. Jane was dissociated as usual. She said she felt fine, and did not know whether she needed the rest or not. We soon decided however not to press for a longer session. Jane resumed, again without her glasses, in the same manner at 9:30.)

Ruburt’s attempt at predictions is an excellent idea and should be continued. He may find that his scope of perception may enlarge.

It is difficult, rather, for me to leave you so early, since I enjoy our sessions. Nevertheless I will follow my own resolution. Ruburt has sufficiently worked already this week, and his energy should be directed elsewhere while he recuperates. There is no serious energy loss here. My purpose is to keep you both in a state of disciplined exuberance however, and I keep a most cautious eye on any, even minute, psychic fatigue. He is not suffering from psychic fatigue. This is a mere and perhaps unnecessary precautionary gesture on my part.

His own work will go well this week, and his energies be refreshed through his usual activities, and also through painting if he finds time. The fifteen-minute limit for psychological time experiments should be kept until our next session, at which time I will give other directions according to the situation.

My heartiest good wishes to you both. With your permission I will look in on you from time to time before our next scheduled session, simply because I enjoy your company.

(“Good night, Seth.”(End at 9:39. Jane was dissociated as usual. She felt somewhat let down and disappointed that the session was so short: “It seems real odd. I feel like a person who expects company for a nice long chat, only to have them just say hello.”)

————————————————————— em>(The following are from Jane’s psychological time notebook:

(November 12, Thursday: 15 minutes; merely a light feeling.

(November 13, Friday, 11:30-45 AM: Definite feeling of lightness, or weightlessness. Odd sensation of inner, not physical, motion, and of pulsation.

(Falling off to sleep, I saw very clearly a dark brown doorknob that was on a white door. So plainly I thought my eyes were open.

(November 16, Monday, 11:45 AM: Good state achieved.)

————————————————————— em>(The following account is from Jane’s dream notebook, and is included here because Seth mentions it in the 107th session. This dream is also directly related to Jane’s dream of November 8. See pages 128-129.

(Jane’s dream, Monday, November 16, 5 PM as Jane took a nap):

(I was with Doctor Kiley and another man who was also a doctor. Doctor Kiley is also dead, has been for some years, at least seven, and was a brother of Helen McIlwain; she was in my dream of November 8, relating to my mother and Seth’s subsequent statements concerning her death. Now, Doctor Kiley and this other doctor were joking and clowning around, laughing about another doctor in connection with my mother.

(Somehow, Doc Kiley grabbed me, spun me around in the air and hugged me. My clothes were in disarray, I told him laughing. Was the joke on my mother? Or on the other doctor they spoke of, or both?

(I remember Doc Kiley best from my grade school days, just as I do his sister Helen. I didn’t see as much of them by the time I was in high school, then college. I remember his last years were tragic ones; he killed a woman while driving, and became an alcoholic. When I was small he gave me presents. In particular I remember a toy merry-go-round. He was a big heavyset man with a square jaw.)

(Then I was in Saratoga Springs, I think. I pointed to a spot in the air beside a telephone pole, and spoke about the two men—Kiley and the other doctor—who had “crashed through” a barrier of some kind. And that’s how or why I was in Saratoga. Not clear here.

(I then spoke to Nan Zeizing, a girl I had gone to high school with. I am not sure, but think I said to Nan that those two men had come to get my mother.

(Nan also said Playboy was a good magazine; I agreed, saying that if one was to read uncritically, as most do, then Playboy would hurt you least of all. They had good stories, and were considering my work, I told her. Nan sat on a railing or in a doorway.)

————————————————————— em>(The following are from my psychological time notebook:

(November 12, Thursday, 8:55 PM: Strong thrilling sensation briefly. Good feeling of enlargement in tops of feet and hands, with duration. Arms especially felt as though they would lift up out of themselves. Also some vague glimpses of figures.

(November 13, Friday, 8:30 PM: Moderate sensation a few times. Hands and feet enlarged on the tops again to some degree. Once, very quickly, the bed beneath me “rippled.” For a moment I thought I might be attempting to travel or lift up.

(Also saw a boy’s head with dark curly hair on an unrolled scroll of some kind. I didn’t know him. Could have been a drawing. Another glimpse of a boy also, profile, though this was not clear at all.

(November 15, Sunday, 8:30 PM: Moderate sensation; some enlargement in hands and feet. Good state achieved. My hands then felt as though they were crossed upon my waist, though actually they lay at my sides.)
